LCRR, now LCRI – Doesn’t Have to Feel Like a Wild Goose Chase. 📅 When: May 22, 2024 at 2:00 PM 🗺️ Where: Verona, NY Have the updated Lead and Copper rules started to feel like a wild goose chase to you? It does NOT have to be! Join us as we walk you through what's required, and the step by step process that will finally allow you to catch that dang goose! With less than a year to complete your preliminary inventory, it is essential to ensure you are collecting and storing your water system's data in an ORGANIZED way. Since new sampling requirements, tighter communication timelines, increased transparency, and more are all going to be reliant upon your inventory it's important to consider HOW you will have to use the data as you are preparing your inventory. We will discuss what LCRR requirements are important, how to develop verification and customer communication strategies, and tips for centralizing your data to make future reporting a breeze. Our team has worked with utilities all over the nation; and, although each state is a little different, the basic work that needs to be done is essentially the same. We'll share some stories of best practices and what has been working as well as regulation updates and what they mean for you going forward. About our partner, BlueConduit: BlueConduit created the first data science approach to predict the presence of lead pipes in water systems and to optimize their removal. Facing incomplete records of service line materials, utilities use BlueConduit’s machine learning platform to predict the unknown materials of water service lines from limited verified information. Utilities leverage model predictions to guide replacement and compliance priorities to target areas with highest risk of lead lines. Q: If you replace all of your service lines requiring replacement, is there any regulatory harm in leaving all the connector materials as unknown? 🤔 A: “Remember our current understanding, at least at the Federal level, a few states, Illinois, New Jersey, we do have the inventory required in 2024, but not again until 2027. Then in 2027 we need to add the connectors. Then we need to submit these inventories annually thereafter. So remember at the Federal level, connectors do not impact the classification of the entire service line. Some states do. So water systems whose inventories contain only non-lead service lines, and never lead connectors, replaced lead connectors, or no connectors present are not required to provide updated inventories to the states or updated inventory to the publicly accessible inventory portion. So I guess just to summarize there, systems are not required to identify the connector material, but unknown connectors. So if you have unknown connectors, but all non-lead service lines, unknown connectors will force systems to continue to submit the inventory annually in 2027, 2028, 2029, etc. Until again, all non-lead service lines and all your connectors are never lead, replaced lead, or no connector present. So an unknown connector can essentially force you to continue your submissions.” - Jonathan Cuppett, Director of Water Quality Compliance, 120Water #digitalwater #waterquality #LCRI #waterpolicy #drinkingwater #GetTheLeadOut #LCRI
